Virtual Harlem

Virtual Harlem is a virtual world based on the golden age of Jazz in Harlem, New York City. It is useful for historical re-enactment, online performance art, learning, and play.

Virtual Harlem is accessible in Second Life, where it is affiliated with the University of Central Missouri and the New York Public Library. It is also compatible with OpenSim, which can be run publicly or behind a firewall. It is designed for multiple uses, containing space that can be used for performance venues, classrooms, retail outlets, or for other purposes. It contains many period landmarks, such as the Apollo Club and the Abyssinian Church, and old civic features, such as streetcars, that contribute to the immersion experience.
